A prenup and $1 billion are the focus of Dr. Dre’s divorce

A prenup and $1 billion are the focus of Dr. Dre’s divorce

When a person in Texas or elsewhere executes a legal document, he or she must be of sound mind. Before signing, a person should also make sure he or she clearly understands what is written in the document, and that, by signing, he or she is agreeing to the terms contained therein. In the case of Nicole Young, former spouse of a famous rapper and music producer, the document in question is a prenuptial agreement she signed before she married Dr. Dre. Now the two are navigating divorce, and Nicole wants the court to disregard the prenup.

Dre’s ex says she was young, naïve and stressed out when she let Dr. Dre and “his representatives” talk her into signing a prenuptial agreement, shortly before her wedding day. Young says she really did not want to sign a prenup but felt extremely pressured to do so. She also has stated that, after a while, her husband tore up the copies of the prenup, saying he regretted ever asking her to sign.

At this time, Dr. Dre has amassed a net worth of approximately $1 billion in the entertainment industry. Young has told the court that, because he earned most of the money during their marriage, she should get a fair share. She has asked the court to determine property division of marital assets in her case without considering the contents of the prenuptial agreement.

A spokesperson for Dr. Dre says his client tells quite a different story from his ex. Dre says his former bride consulted with her own team of attorneys and was fully cognizant of what she was agreeing to in the prenuptial agreement. He also denies ever having apologized for asking her to sign it or for tearing it up. Any Texas spouse who is facing similar legal problems in connection with a prenuptial or post nuptial agreement may seek immediate support from an experienced family law attorney.
