A recent accident in Texas claimed the life of a man who had stopped to help someone change a flat tire. According to reports, the driver whose vehicle hit him was allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol. However, the seriousness of the charges extends beyond that of DUI.

A 26-year-old man, the owner of a roadside assistance business, had responded to a call for service. He had parked his pickup truck on the shoulder of the road and changed a flat tire. As he was returning his tools to his truck, a car hit him. The man’s legs were reportedly severed as a result of the impact.

The car was driven by a 45-year-old woman. According to police, her car caught on fire, and she was transported to a nearby hospital. The woman purportedly had slurred speech, bloodshot eyes and smelled of alcohol.

Reports indicate that the woman told the police officers she had not consumed any alcohol in three days. However, the arrest report notes that she failed a field sobriety test. A blood test was also administered to determine her blood alcohol level. The woman faces a charge of intoxication manslaughter.
